Foldables are a lot of fun. They are one of the hottest items on the smartphone market today. Samsung, makes a couple different foldables. Their horizontal foldable – The Galaxy Z Flip is a small, horizontal folding, easy to carry device. The Galaxy Z Fold is a larger vertical folding, but still easy to carry. We even took a look at the Google Fold and Chris Gavula offered his first impressions of the first foldable from Google.
The technology that allows this to happen is in the screen itself and the one biggest problem that you will see and have with any device that folds is, of course, the crease in the middle of the screen. Until the technology comes about to either marry two screens together with no gap and no bezel, or to completely remove the crease from a folded screen, there will always be a crease.
So, let’s take a look at the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The Fold 5 is the latest in Samsung’s vertical folding smartphone offering. I compare it to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, before it gets sent in for trade. Let’s take a Quick Look before we move on to specifics:
Here are the differences between the Fold 5 vs. the Fold 4, at a glance:
- The Galaxy Z Fold 5 features a better hinge design than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, allowing the device to fold flat.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a brighter internal display.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is 10g lighter and has a smaller footprint.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 5 features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Fold 4 has the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC. The Gen 2 processor offers better performance over the Gen 1.
Specs for the two devices are below. As you can see, the devices are very similar.
