I’ve never been a huge gamer. To be honest, until about a year ago, you’d be hard-pressed to find me playing much more than Solitaire on a Windows machine near me. And then, yeah… I’ve got software to test.
And again, to be honest, even then, I’m not about the games. I play Mario Kart Tour, Royal Match, and Fishdom on my iPhone. That’s me… gaming. However, when it comes to my 16″ M1 Max MacBook Pro the one feature that I was excited to try and use, I really wasn’t able to touch – a Thunderbolt compatible, external graphics adapter. I wasn’t able to touch it, at least, until now. Now that GPD has released and shipped the G1.
What’s the G1, you might ask?! Well, let’s let the unboxing video speak for itself.
Some of the most valuable features of GPD G1 are:
- A built-in AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT mobile discrete graphics card with RDNA3 architecture, 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a TGP power of 75~120W, and gaming performance surpassing that of the desktop RTX 3070.
- An axial fan, a dynamic temperature control design with high airflow and low noise.
- An Oculink interface on the body meets the needs of users to improve their gaming and office experience by purchasing GPD products and using the GPD G1 graphics card expansion dock.
- A Thunderbolt 4 interface can be connected to any device that supports Thunderbolt 3/Thunderbolt 4/USB4 to expand more peripherals
- Connect both the Oculink and USB4 ports simultaneously and the dock can maximize graphics card performance while expanding more peripherals.
I plan to – or at least try to – do a lot with this little bad boy. Right now, AMD has only released drivers for the 7600M XT graphics card on the Windows platform. I’d really like to see them release drivers for Mac and Linux as well.
